Skywatch Friday – November morning

061120091982_stitch

We had a beautiful morning today, +1 degree celcius and sunny, except for these nice clouds. I had to stitch together quite a few photos to get this, I thought it was fun to make it this way.

Here is a larger version of it.

4th grader surprised by daddy

A 4th grader thinks she is about to give a report at school on halloween, but instead she get a pleasent surprise. I love this one, had to share it :

Henriette Holten Hjemdal want wolf fur

Foto: Scanpix

There is an ongoing debate in Norway about our (20 or 30) wolfs, which attack sheep and other “house”-animals. Yesterday a newspaper released a photo of a half-eaten dog (by wolf) and then the debate got a new explosive energy. Now KrF (a christian political party) want to give dog owners among others to kill the wolf if they attack.

Then I saw this photo, isn’t it some kind of fur she uses? If so I guess she want some wolf-fur as well…

For the record, I think we should protect the last wolfs we have left here in Norway, people should protect their dogs and sheeps – its too easy to blame the wolf.

Nerd Monday – Labyrinth Aquarium

I had a small aquarium when I was a kid and I dreamed of a larger one, or an aquarium I could mount into my wall. When I saw this I suddenly got the urge to keep fishes again. Its from Opulent Items, I’ve never seen that site before and its worth a visit. Check this out, these fishes can swim freely between the modules:

The photo is without cables and air supply so I guess it won’t be _this_ tidy but I think it was neat anyway.

The oilrig on fire

The oil catastrophe in the Timor Sea off the north west coast of Australia where an oilrig is on fire is tragic news, you can read more on that here at BBC.

The owner is Norwegian and that apparently make the newspapers here go nuts. This is the photo they choose to present the owner.

I… don’t quite know what to say. Do media this on purpose to make people appear ridiculous?

Happy new year

Kids have startet to ring down our door bell now, we just had three of them. “Trick or treat” they shouted when I opened up the door. I gave them some candy and when they went they yelled “happy new year!”. Kids here in Norway doesn’t understand what halloween is. Its kind of funny..

Media says here that we’ve inherited this from USA but I kind of disagree. Every kid here have bought their costume, not a creative soul out there. I’ve seen a lot of Americans preparing for Halloween this week, a lot of creative people who design their own costume. So to say we’ve copied this from the US is in my opinion wrong – we should copy their creativity too!

A lot of the kids who’ve been here tonight has masks from the same store, its kind of funny..

Our King sneaks in H1N1 vaccine queue

Once again people sneak in line, but this time our royal family, the king, queen and the rest of the family are now vaccinated. But they think they do it to protect others they meet, but isn’t it so that people who are vaccinated carry the disease anyway and can give H1N1 to others without knowing it?

In Norway we struggle to get the vaccine out to everyone so the authoroties had to split the vaccines in two. First the people with cronic diseases will get the vaccine, then the people without any problems.

I guess our king and his family is secretly in the problemgroup.

View of Fyllingsdalen where I grew up. This is one of my favourite views – I never get tired of taking pictures of it. Its taken from my mom and dad’s house last Sunday. Here is a larger version of it..

This one was taken in a hurry from the car, its from Nordåsvannet.

An autumn walk

My daughter and I explored our neighborhood last weekend and to study the autumn process. We had a great time – she loves walking though the leaves and the sound it makes. I found out that I love it too – it is relaxing. I managed to snap some shots and yesterday I stitched them together..

We stopped here to study the nice wool-like clouds. Its a 5 minute walk from our home, well.. 20 if we count in the time my daughter stopped to check out some small rocks on the ground – I think she’ll become a rock collector.

This was originally a mill, then a wool-factory and later a herring oil factory. Today the buildings host a paint factory. Here is an air-shot of the buildings, taken in July 1960. The area is called Kverneviken. (Mill Creek)

There are still remaining channels from the river and into the building’s cellar here used for the mill. I never get tired exploring this area, I hope I can enter them once but I haven’t had the guts asking yet.

This is a river near us running through our area and end up at the factory buildings where the mill was. I should have taken a few more shots so it became a square when I stitched them..

Nerd Monday – Halloween costume

This one is a bit old but I think it cannot be repeated enough times, this is Evan Booth’s halloween costume for a contest a while ago:

Tired of the Congo-case

I’m tired of the media coverage of the two Norwegians in Congo. One of the guys is now playing insane to either be transferred home or to mistrial – its ridiculous. If they’ve killed a man in Congo they deserve to be treated as other killers in Congo, if not – they trial will tell. In the mean time I wish media concentrated on other matters.

Like this for instance, or maybe explain why so many people get killed in the UN building from the 17th floor?

Friday Humor – Windows 7 and sofas

Lets start this weekend about the story of the guy who got arrested while driving in his.. lounge-chair. Check it out here: Nola.com

And how the Windows 7 demo failed a bit on this one:

Skipping the queue for a H1N1 vaccine

Today my homecity started vaccinating people against H1N1 or swineflue as many like to call it. Bergen received 15000 vaccines and the first area got 4000. Early this morning queues were building up and they worry now that 4000 won’t last long. They are supposed to restrict vaccines to pregnant and people with severe airway diseases but I have a feeling more than these are lining up.

A few minutes ago they had to let pregnant go first in line because people have started to skip the queue – can you imagine that? This is embarrassing..

The personell there now fairs now that 4000 is not enough but they don’t know when the next shipment comes. The health system is a mess, noone seem in control but everyone knows that Norway ordered too many vaccines and theres no left for the poorer countries.

I hope the ones who take the vaccine today will be ok, I fear they are part of an experiment since the vaccine is quite new.
