Tomas Tandstad is turning 98 in a few months and the other day he bought a 98 model Subaru Justy, a 4 wheel drive. He needed the 4 wheel drive because of the road up to cabin. The car was found for sale on Internet, his youngest son (54) helped him to order it.
Every day he drives 9 kilometers to visit his wife, shes at an elder center – isn’t that awesome?
His secret to long life is fresh fish, dark bread and a glass of hombrew ale.

The reason I ask is that now that the strawberry season starts here in Norway people are trying to lure us with important berries, yet selling them as “Norwegian strawberries”.
Sweden also have this problem but they’ve hired some experts to find the swindlers but Norway does not have any plans fighting it.

Noen som har peiling på dette? Er det Florence og Frida som er mest utbredt i Norge? Er de octoploide eller diploide?
Vel.. Grunnen til at jeg ble så nysgjerrig er at jeg har lyst til å dna-teste jordbær i de forskjellige butikkene for å finne ut hvilken type det er og om mulig opphav. Spesielt etter at jeg leste en artikkel i Fredrikstad Blad om at Thorbjørn Bye advarer oss mot “billige norske jordbær” – de kan være importerte!
Thorbjørn Bye har dyrket jordbær i over 30 år og sier at det blir mistenkelig når prisene er fryktelig lave på “norske jordbær”, han vet at lureri kan forekomme. Han sier også at man lett kan smake forskjell, men jeg stoler ikke på min jordbær-teft lenger. Det er flaut å si det men jeg har ikke vært særlig flink de siste årene til å spise norske jordbær og da tror jeg denne teften har forsvunnet.
Derfor lurte jeg på om det kanskje var mulig å dna-teste jordbær rundt omkring. Tror dere at Plantebiosenteret eller noen andre ville ha vært mulig å ta imot slike oppdrag? Hmm tror jeg må sende litt mail for å høre. Det hadde vært artig om norske jordbærprodusenter kunne finne en dna-signatur på sine bær og at det ble en del av “Norske jordbær-stempelet”.

First trip with our new light-rail|Første tur med Bybanen

I look forward to the extension of the line, I want it now!
A few problems though but that is just some minor glitches, the ticket-line became too long so an employee decided to let us onto the tram without paying, oh well.
I think many train and tram-enthusiasts enjoy themselves these days, we met a lot of tourists as well.

I bet our light-rail system will be a success but I didn’t like the payment system. You have to buy tickets at a booth, only with period-cards you can enter the tram directly, there is no way to pay once inside. I think that is a bit old fashion.

Litt kluss med billett-systemet så vi fikk reise gratis begge veier. Noen innkjøringsproblemer må de få lov å ha. Strekningen Sentrum – Nesttun har blitt kjempeflott, det har rett og slett blomstret opp langs Bybanens linje.
Da vi skulle kjøpe billett var køen så lang at vi ikke kom til å rekke den, til slutt kom en Bybaneansatt og vinket oss inn på trikken uten å betale.
Tipper det er en del trikk og tog-entusiaster som gleder seg i disse dager.
På Nesttun slappet vi av i gågaten, der var det mange spennende boder med varer fra Nederland, Frankrike, England etc. Så tok vi middagen på Peppes, der var det ganske tragisk, jeg tror ikke de ansatte var vant til mennesker der.
Alltid like spennende å se på hva de forskjellige Peppesavdelingene har hengt opp, på Nesttun har de dette:

Bybanen kommer nok til å bli en suksess, men de må gjøre noe drastisk med betalingssystemet. Det er for dumt at man må gå i en billettautomat på motsatt side av sporet selv om man har et påfylt Skyss-kort. Man burde gått for et system som ikke er fra 1980-tallet. Men men, de måtte vel spare penger på den biten og kjøpe det billigste systemet de fant i Europa. Men dette er bagateller, jeg er kjempeglad i Bybanen alle rede og vil ha den over alt.

Our kids play here a lot so we decided to buy some Permetrin and Pyretrin to get rid of it. This is how it looked:
I waited til the wasps fell to rest and sprayed the entrance, it became quite a chaos and listening to all the wasps in there was kind of frightening but some of them blocked the entrance and they couldn’t get out. I wish they built this in the forest instead, I don’t like to do this but we had to think about our kids’ safety.. Heres the aftermath:
Lots of the larvae were alive and about to hatch so we threw the nest on the fire to get rid of the rest. Den var bak en vegg og grillen vår, godt gjemt. Den har nok vært der en stund for bolet var godt utviklet og det summet godt der inne. Side ungene leker mye der var vi nødt til å bli kvitt bolet. Slik så det ut:
Vi kjøpte inn en spray med Permetrin med Pyretrin og bestemte oss for å vente til natten når vepsene hadde slått seg til ro. Da det var ro i bolet sprayet jeg masse inn i inngangen deres. Noen av dem blokkerte heldigvis åpningen så de ikke kom seg ut, jeg må innrømme at jeg ble litt redd da jeg hørte alle vepsene der inne. Jeg liker egentlig ikke å gjøre dette, skulle ønske de kunne bygge i skogen istedet. Men vi var nødt til å tenke på ungenes sikkerhet, vepsestikk er ikke noe godt og minstemann har vel arvet min allergi for alskens stikk..
Slik så det ut etterpå:
Mange av larvene var fortsett i live så vi kastet bolet i peisen. Huff, ekle greier.. men godt å bli kvitt det.

In January 2008 they started building the long awaited Bybanen (Light-rail) in my city (Bergen in Norway) and tomorrow its opening! This is phase 1 which is about 10 kilometer, I think they are starting next phase this autumn. I hope it will reduce the car usage-here. Our Queen will be opening it tomorrow around noon.
Our local newspaper BA (Bergensavisen) joined a ride and filmed it, its worth a check – I think it will be popular among tourists as well. They don’t have any embed-code so I had to include the link. (Its SFW and no ads) The music they’ve used is from local bands.

A quick walk on Lyderhorn|En rask tur på Lyderhorn

I love the view up there. Lyderhorn was a gathering location for witches on Midsummer night, Valborg night, and at Christmas.
