I just have to share this in case someone else hit the same problem as I did. Upgrading to XP worked like a charm and I am glad I did it, the machine is much quicker now as well.

A new problem occured though when I installed Nokia PC Suite to connect it to my cellphone – it did not want to communicate with the phone! I tried anything, handshaking here and there, disabling, rebooting, reinstalling, reactivating but nothing helped. When I chose to add phone in Nokia PC Suite and it asked for the pin, the Thinkpad answered instead thinking it was the phone. The bluetooth stack took over! My phone did not get the chance to answer the handshake request…

I had to laugh when I figured it out, I am always suspicious to branded PCs and brand-software. I found this when I chose add/remove programs :

Thinkpad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software. Ewww… Software that enhances stuff is most of the time dangerous and unstable.

I uninstalled this and then everything worked fine!

If you have the same problem, make sure you have the C:SWTOOLSDRIVERSTPBToothWin32drivers, you have to use it later.

Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and remove “Thinkpad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software”, then reboot your machine.

When you log on again it finds new hardware and asks for drivers, choose “have disk” and direct it to C:SWTOOLSDRIVERSTPBToothWin32drivers. Then it install Bluetooth properly and you’re ready to go!

Jeg må bare dele dette i tilfelle andre leter etter løsning på samme problem som jeg møtte på. Etter at jeg oppgraderte til Windows XP så fungerer maskinen som en sjarm, den er raskere også!

Jeg møtte dessverre på et nytt problem når jeg skulle installere Nokia PC Suite for å koble maskinen til mobilen min – de ville absolutt ikke bli venner! Jeg prøvde alt mulig, handshaking både her og der, avslåing, omstart, reaktivering men ingen ting hjalp. Når jeg valgte å legge til mobiltelefon i Nokia PC Suite, satte et passord og klikket på neste så var det Thinkpad bluetooth som svarte istedet for mobilen. Mobilen fikk rett og slett ikke henvendelsen…

Jeg måtte le da jeg fant ut av det, fra før av er jeg alltid skeptisk til maskiner som kommer med alskens programvare fra leverandøren og jeg fant dette i “Legg til/Fjern programmer” :

Thinkpad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software. Ekkelt! Programvare som skryter av forbedring av en standard funksjon er som oftest både skummel og ustabil.

Jeg avinstallerte denne og da ordnet alt seg!

Om du har det samme problemet vær først sikker på at du har C:SWTOOLSDRIVERSTPBToothWin32drivers, denne må du bruke etter at du har avinstallert programsnutten.

Gå til kontrollpanelet, velg “Legg til/Fjerne programmer” og avinstaller “Thinkpad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software”, deretter start PCen på nytt.

Når du logger inn igjen og Windows XP finner ny maskinvare og spør etter drivere, velg “Har diskett” og pek mot C:SWTOOLSDRIVERSTPBToothWin32drivers. Da installerer den en mye bedre løsning for Bluetooth – og så er du klar!
