Capturing an earthquake on a long exposure photo|Å fange opp et jordskjelv på et bilde ved lang lukkertid

The space station has orbited between 330 to 435km up since 2000 and has been manned all the time since then.

On November 1st The International Space Station was visible from New Zealand, Tim set out to capture a long-exposure shot of ISS passing. It turned out great! He noticed something strange though when he zoomed in, notice the «curls» here?

At first I thought he moved his tripod by accident or somehow caused a movement but guess what – he recorded an earthquake!

At the same moment he started taking the photos people reported about the earthquake:

Jeg misunner mennesker som bor i deler av verden hvor de kan se ISS med det blotte øye innimellom sige over seg. Romstasjonen har gått i bane rundt jorden ca 330 til 435km over oss siden 2000 og har vært bemannet 24 timer i døgnet siden da.

1. november skulle den internasjonale romstasjonen ISS over New Zealand, Tim trasket ut og satte opp stativet for å ta noen bilder med lang eksponering. Bildene ble superfine! Men så oppdaget han noe snodig når han zoomet inn, ser du kurvene her?

Først trodde han at han hadde kommet borti tripoden eller av en eller annen grunn beveget kamera men gjett hva – han fanget opp et jordskjelv!

I used to make crystals with it, I always tought that was magic. Have you tried?

I bought 250g at the pharmacy and boiled up water. After boiling it I poured the water and some of the copper sulfate in a bowl while stiring. As much as I could as long as it disolved. Then I waited for a few days and it turned into wonderful crystals. Like these ones:

I haven’t made any for a while so I had to find a photo on Wiki – maybe I should try this again soon.

Jeg har til og med mer igjen i hyllen da jeg så litt etter denne i dag. Jeg kjøpte kobbersulfat (Cupri Sulfas) på apoteket, kokte opp vann og helte vann over i en bolle. Deretter strødde jeg så mye kobbersulfat jeg kunne i vannet så lenge alt ble blandet ut mens jeg rørte. Det er best å koke opp vannet, jo renere vann jo bedre. Det gjør ikke noe om det kommer litt ekstra kobbersulfat i bunnen, det blir en fin start på veksten. Her er et eksempel:

DNBs new 17 million logo|DNBs nye million-logo

Today DNB (The Norwegian Bank) is launching its new logo, 17 million NOK ($3 million) for this one:

And it will cost 200 million NOK ($36 million) to implement it. Awesome? I wish I was a logo-designer. Is it the Decorum Expanded font?

As always I compare new logos with all, and the first thing that comes to mind is these ones:

I dag lanserte DNB sin nye logo til 17 millioner kroner. Den er jo fin da:

Det vil koste 200 millioner kroner å implementere den, det er jo litt mye men alt koster i bank-bransjen. Men er dette Decorum Expanded font’en? Jeg synes de kanskje har betalt mye for en standard font med en liten modifikasjon på N’en. 🙂

Several weird sightings over London this weekend|Flere merkelige observasjoner over London denne helgen

Mysterious rings on ice|Mystiske ringer på isen

These are formed when the temperature rises, the ice gets thinner and it sinks a little, sometimes because warmer water rises and drills holes in the ice from below. The overhead water floods in at times and freezes, and this continues till circles are formed. At least, thats what experts are saying. Eksperter sier at dette oppstår ved mildvær, når isen blir tynnere og synker litt stiger det varmere vann opp. Når dette gjentas over tid oppstår slike sirkler. Her er mange andre fine sirkler.
